Standing Together Against Injustice

In light of the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery – as well as tens of thousands of unequal deaths of persons of color at the hands of a viral pandemic fueled by systemic inequity, and countless years of violence and murder targeting the BIPOC community – Pacifica Spindrift Players feels compelled to join our community of artists as we state, clearly and unequivocally, that black lives matter, and that we stand together in the fight against injustice and systemic racism.

Resources for Speaking Up and Speaking Out
(from Theatre Bay Area, and collected by Leigh Rodon-Davis)

1. Think before you re-share graphic videos of violence against Black people. While these images are important to raise awareness and show others the extremity of this brutality, you risk re-triggering or traumatizing Black and brown folks in your communities.

2. Take time to educate other non-Black folks and challenge anti-blackness and racism in your families and social networks. This labor should not fall on people of color who are living these experiences.

3. Participate in advocacy to support the victims and their families; do your due diligence and make sure the organization is actually donating to the proper parties.
