What You’re Supporting When You Give to PSP

Things may have seemed quiet at our little theatre in the woods since spring 2020, but PSP’s volunteer leadership has been hard at work—from renovating the theatre to developing new company policies to putting on COVID-safe outdoor and virtual productions. Most exciting of all, we’ve officially started preparing for our return to indoor live theater this January!

None of this would be possible without the generous support of our community. Whether you’ve donated money, volunteered your time, or just reached out to stay in touch about our upcoming plans, the promise of inviting you back to our theatre has kept us going through this challenging time.

With Giving Tuesday next week, please consider donating to support PSP. No amount is too small—your donations keep theatre alive on the coast and we are forever grateful to all of our generous donors.

Looking Back

We wanted to take a moment to highlight some of our accomplishments of the past two years and give you a preview of what’s to come—none of which would be possible without the support of our community.

Since spring 2020, PSP has:
  • Produced two 7-week outdoor, socially distanced staged reading series—including the Bay Area’s first live in-person theatrical production of the pandemic
  • Streamed four professionally edited virtual cabarets, multiple online play readings and workshops, as well as a fully staged live production—all safely shared with viewers from home
  • Reorganized our leadership structure to include an Executive Director, Managing Director, a VP of Grants and Sponsorships, as well as a VP of Patron Development, thereby increasing the number of volunteer leaders dedicated to PSP’s success
  • Utilized hard-earned community grants and patron donations to help fund a new energy-efficient lighting grid and replace the flooring throughout the theater
  • Worked with a team of incredible volunteers to reorganize and renovate the theatre’s interior
  • Re-envisioned our mission statement to better reflect PSP’s commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive theatre community
  • Developed and begun implementing a multilayered diversity, equity and inclusion plan, including antiracist theatre training for the PSP leadership team and working with pro bono HR specialists and consultants to update company policies and protocols to reflect this commitment
  • Begun developing an outreach program to collaborate with and create space in our season for underrepresented artists to tell their stories on the PSP stage

Looking Forward

We can’t wait to welcome audiences and community members back to PSP. As we prepare to come together and celebrate the magic of live theatre, we have created a detailed set of evidence-based COVID-19 protocols to protect the safety of audiences and artists.

We know you’ve been waiting for this update, so without further ado, we’re thrilled to announce our first three shows of 2022:
  • The Mad Ones, by Kait Kerrigan and Bree Lowdermilk (directed by Doug Greer), a musical about a young woman struggling with deciding whether to follow in her mother’s footsteps, or take the dare of her impetuous best friend and chart a new path. Opens January 2022—tickets will be available soon!
  • Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, by Christopher Durang (directed by Walter M. Mayes), which tells the story of two siblings—Vanya and Sonia—who have never left the confines of their family home, and whose lives are thrown into disarray when their glamorous movie star sister, Masha, returns with her much younger boy toy, Spike, introducing chaos and the possibility of escape into their quiet home. Opens February 2022.
  • The Revolutionists, by Lauren Gunderson (directed by Heather Skelley), in which four women who lose their heads during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror tell their stories in an irreverent and dream-tweaked comedy about legacy and violence, art and activism, and how we actually go about changing the world. Opens April 2022.
We hope this announcement gets you as excited to return to PSP as we are to invite you back! Stay tuned for more updates about our upcoming plans and programming.

We thank you for your ongoing support and for sticking with us. We can’t wait to see you again soon.
